HMIS Governance

Congress directed the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to ensure the collection of more reliable data regarding the use of homeless programs. HUD has since directed the programs it funds to develop a local Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) to collect and report data on the usage of homeless services and mandated all Continuum of Care (CoC) applicants to demonstrate progress in implementing HMIS. Each CoC and it’s agencies applying to continue to receive HUD funding must have a computerized data collection system in place.
